UPDATES ON Tundu Lissu’s health…
The
Opposition party Chadema, said that the health of MP, Tundu Lissu, who was shot, wounded and
later flown to Nairobi for further treatment, was now improving.
Lissu was hit by five
out of between 28 and 32 bulletsfired at his vehicle by unidentified gunmen at
his residence in Dodoma on Thursday, September 7.
Chadema Secretary General, Dr. Vincent
Mashinji, told a press conference today, September 8, that the national
chairman, Mr Freeman Mbowe, who escorted Lissu to Nairobi, has informed him
that the MP is doing well.Dr Mashinji , however, urged the authorities to refrain from referring to attackers as “unknown people.” He said a number of people have been attacked by the so-called “unknown people,’’ but no action has been taken so far.
"How come the incidence occurred in broad daylight and police are saying the attackers are yet to be identified. Police should not hide behind this adage of “unknown people” because it is their work to uncover them," he said.
The deputy National Chairman of Chadema, Prof Abdallah Safari, saidjudging from what happened, all evidence indicate that the attackers intended to kill Mr Lissu.
"This is very sad for Tanzania’s political future. We need police to do their job in a professional manner in order to identify those who intended to kill Mr Lissu," he said.
